Batching applications using BatchTron II

BatchTron II Is a flexible batching control system with plant configurations selectable from the menu.  For precast concete and other concrete products plants, BatchTron II is adaptable and customizable. Here are some examples.
What is a PLC? Why is it better than a PC computer? Can I purchase BatchTron for one plant and use it on another? Will BatchTron increase speed and accuracy? This page answers these questions and others.

Concrete, food products, animal feed, asphalt: BatchTron has many applications

Connecting to BatchTron PLC
BatchTron II is in use worldwide for batching plants in the precast concrete, block, paver, dry products, prestressed and hollow-core industries.  It is also used in both dry and wet batch ready-mix plants. Other applications include bulk material terminals, wet-belt aggregate cooling and bin refill systems.  The versatility of the PLC controller lends itself to processes that need extensive customization  Examples are food, animal feed, chemicals, cement blending and many other industries. Scale-Tron specializes in custom applications where new techniques have to be devised . . . Read more

  • Related processes such as aggregate bin refill can be combined with concrete batching to centralize all controls.  Consequently, it eliminates the need for extra equipment.
  • You can easily customize screens for plant variations and added features, as well as language variations and special symbols.  Chinese language versions are running in China and Mongolia.
  • We can download software updates online, making plant visits a thing of the past.
  • All our accessories such as demand stations and Mobile Control can be used with BatchTron II .  Of course, the AquaSense 2280D and AquaMix 2270D moisture sensors for aggregates and the mixer can be used too.
  • BatchTron II with BatchLink Order Entry / Dispatching software creates a full-featured ready-mix operation where the operator runs the plant from the dispatching computer.  This software enables the operator to run the most common plant functions from the dispatching computer.  The touch screen is live at all times and is a backup in case the computer fails or for manual control.

BatchTron II meets the standards of PCI, NPCA, NRMCA and other associations for concrete plant certification.

Customers and Applications

BatchTron II batching concrete at Block Tech, Ajman, UAE, 2007

Block Tech, Ajman, UAE, 2007.  Batchtron II controls a small central mix concrete plant feeding an 'egg-layer' block machine that lays the compressed but uncured blocks on the ground.  The hot and humid Dubai air does the curing in a few hours . . . Read more

Other applications

  • Several other installations of BatchTron are running in various batching plants throughout the UAE, from Ajman in the north to Abu Dhabi in the south.  These customers use our STI for service, which they do on-line during our night time when required, which is rare.
  • Saramac Beton Préfabriqué, part of Schokbeton Group, Montreal, 2013.  Single Eirich mixer feeds a plant BatchTron II application at Joe Floyd Precast plantspecialized in architectural pieces for facades of buildings.  They have upgraded this very old central mix plant with new controls several times.  They produce very critical concrete at this plant and they maintain high accuracy with the self-tuning feature of the BatchTron controls.
  • Joe Floyd, Oregon, 2008.  See picture at right.  J. McCoy Equipment installed this small precast batching plant to make general precast and drainage products.  They have called us for service only once or twice since they commissioned the plant.

Another BatchTron II application at Thalle Construction, Kentucky Dam Project, 2010. This controller is used for aggregate cooling and bin refill.
Thalle Construction, Kentucky Dam Project, 2010.  A special application, the operator console connects to a free-standing cabinet that houses both motor controls and the BatchTron PLC.  This BatchTron controls the wet-belt aggregate cooling system and concrete plant bin refilling, based on the usage rate of materials.  It controls variable speed feeders to hold bin levels near their mid-point as production speeds up and slows down . . . • Anchor Concrete, Kingston Ontario,  2004.  The two batching plants make prefab buildings and drainage products.  Anchor replaced their old Genie-II system, also from Scale-Tron, with one of the original BatchTrons and added the second one when they added their second building and plant.  Both systems run continuously with practically no maintenance.
  • Other BatchTron II customers include all of the Lindsay family’s precast concrete plants throughout the U.S., many precast, block and ready-mix plants across the U.S. and Canada and Concretos La Silla’s ready-mix and block plants in Mexico.

STI (Service and Training by Internet)

BatchTron’s lifetime and reliability are by far the best in the industry.  This is not where we stop, however.  Our customers tell us – loud and clear – when they do have a problem.  In order to solve problems quickly and efficiently we have called upon the latest Internet technology.  Through your company network and its Internet connection, or even through a phone connection to the Internet, we can access your batching system.  This allows us to monitor its progress to pinpoint faults.  Even if mechanical problems have caused the faults, we can see the resulting holdup.  Consequently we can guide the operator to a successful outcome, anywhere in the world. Our engineers can monitor or control the PC computer running BatchLink software.  They drill down through levels of menus to check setup data and correct it.  Most important, they can train personnel to understand the processes.  Together with a speaker phone, we can conduct training sessions for groups almost as easily as being on site.  The cost saving and convenience is obvious.  Scale-Tron makes your experience the best possible.
